History...
In 19th
Century, African American religion was born during the antebellum period. In
the south it was a theology of suffering for the stresses of slavery. African people in the South could not have a good education. The north theology trusted
the faith in Christ. There’s a difference the North and the South, the northern
theology adequately addressed empowermentcore
concerns while the southern theology did not.
When slavery ended, the southern church
began to adopt the northern theology. Between
1870 and 1910 the African American church had a big bang growth. In late 19th
Century the terrorism of the post-reconstruction south, had an influence and
they returned to the old, classic theology. The northern theological tradition was not so much
followed. Without a “leader” lot of these churches ended this tradition.
In 20th
Century about 90% of African Americans lived in the South. African Americans with southern people took
power and transformed their theology in the urban church.

than northern issues. 1970s most African Americans lived in the North; younger
African American generation began to become disconnected from the traditional
Black church. By the end of the 20th Century, all the non-Christian left the
African American.
